SOCIAL MEDIA
The important thing to note when shying away from Social Media is that your public expect you to be there!
It doesn't surprise me that people still shy away from Social Media - I hated it for years but it isn't going anywhere and it is the most amazing tool for telling the world about your business.
71% of on line adults use Facebook. While a website is absolutely essential, think of it as your Reception Desk - it is where your potential customers know that they can get information about your business, product or service. But what about if that customer wants to know more about you? We are so used to the importance of the provenance of our food and we are regularly encouraged to get to know the people behind the things we put in our shopping baskets and I believe it's the same for all small businesses. Facebook, Twitter and Instagram allow potential clients and customers to engage with you in a way that was rarely possible in the past. That engagement, that two-way conversation helps build up a level of trust necessary for any business interaction. It can't take the place of a face to face meeting but it is another important tool.
And, the important thing to note when shying away from Social Media is that your public expect you to be there!
Your Small Business PR should be made up of a variety of layers - you don't need to spend all day on Social Media, no-one needs to see you on holiday with your family or what you ate for dinner last night, you don't need to be in the press every week but you do need a presence. A few well honed posts and tweets each week maintains that presence. A few well placed articles in the press every few months will help increase that profile.
Social Media is not about the 'hard sell' - it's about helping to create a need. Write about about what you know, what you would recommend. Give advice. Share relevant articles. Be funny, be quirky, be memorable. Share a little, not a lot! And if it all seems too much then get in touch and I can manage it all for you.
